Understanding Lip Piercing

October 4th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Lip Piercing

In certain tribes or groups of people, lip piercing is customary; for many others it springs from the desire to be unique, while other people consider it a trend in fashion.

Regardless of how you think of lip piercing, its popularity to this day cannot be argued. It can be done on either the lower lip or the upper lip, at the center, at the corner or somewhere in between. Lip jewelry appears in many designs and styles, the most common of which are studs, tusks, rings, and spikes.

Whatever style you decide to use, make sure that the jewelry is made of high quality surgical steel, titanium or 18k gold because these metals are not going to cause any allergic reactions, unlike nickel.

Remember that while lip piercing is not a difficult process at all, it’s nonetheless wise to ask a professional or a trained personnel to perform the procedure on you because he or she understands and is able to observe proper hygiene when doing the procedure.

It only takes minutes to do, but the healing process can be anywhere between two and six months. During which time, you must observe yourself closely for any signs of infection such as abnormal drainage and swelling or inflammation on the affected area.
