So many teenagers are going crazy about tongue piercing. For them it is a form of art, a way to express themselves. What many of them do not know, however, is that this form of body piercing does not come with certain risks and dangers to your life.

 Tongue piercing increases your chances of acquiring the dreaded Hepatitis C virus, as well as other types of Hepatitis. Blood poisoning is also a complication, and in worse cases this can develop in toxic shock. You are also at risk of swallowing the jewelry which can block your airways or perforate your bowels, either way can cause death.

 Pain can also be experienced with tongue piercing. Even though pain is usually common with any kind of body piercing, it is more severe when the tongue is involved.

 It’s actually very difficult to eat and speak when you have a piece of jewelry in your tongue. Some people report biting the jewelry off, instead, and this can result to cracked teeth. People who have had their tongues pierced have also reported finding it difficult to speak and experienced the development of gum disease.

 While these cannot happen to every individual with a pierced tongue, these are nonetheless potential risks to health and life that you should never take for granted.
