January 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Ear Piercing

Ear piercing was traditionally done during the earlier times as a religious practice. The Bible also makes mention of such practice. Also this practice has been commonly adopted by certain countries both in Asia and Africa.

During the 19th century only women were seen having ear piercings however it was during the later years that men began to adopt the custom as well.

Nowadays men find having their ears pierced quite fashionable. Piercing the ears is the most popular form of piercing nowadays. You can choose to pierce any area in your ear. Here are some of your options:

Ear Lobe Piercing – One advantage to this is that the healing time is just short. Normally up to 6 weeks should be set aside for this piercing to heal completely.

Horizontal Lobe Piercing – Some people choose to wear barbells on their ears, and this is why horizontal lobe piercing is done. The piercing is horizontally parallel to the lobe of the ear.

Rook Piercing – The uppermost part of the ear is called the rook. The thickest part of the ear is the rook. This type of piercing is not very common since it often takes a longer time to heal completely and you will need ample space for the actual piercing.

There are other types of piercing. These include helix, industrial, tragus, daith, and anti-tragus.

When you get a piercing, it is pretty common to suffer from infection afterward. This is why it is important to adopt proper caring procedures after having your ears pierced. Use a saline solution to wash the infected area 1-2 times per day. The infected area should not be touched repeatedly especially if your hands are dirty.

Ear piercing may be fashionable but it is nor for everyone. You need to know the risks involved and the proper care procedures as well.
