The earlobe is the most common site of body piercing, but there are cartilagenous parts of the ear where it can also be performed. Cartilage piercing involves the upper portion of the external ear and it’s actually more difficult to perform than the usual ear lobe piercing.
It also takes more time to heal, so you need to be extra careful not to introduce germs into the wound area that can infect it. Never touch the wound with a dirty hand nor allow it to get in contact with anything that is dirty. Daily washing or cleaning of the wound is essential and this can be done using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Nonetheless, you must always watch out for signs of infection, such as yellowish or greenish discharges and swelling on the affected area.
Pain may be common, but it’s just temporary. Over-the-counter pain relievers may help to relieve the pain somehow.
There are many clinics and salons that perform cartilage piercing, and you should always seek the one that has the most experienced with this kind of thing. Even though this is something you can also do in your own home, it is always wise to trust this sort of thing to the experts.
