Tragus piercing is not difficult to do; in fact, you can do it yourself right in your own home. The important thing to remember when doing it yourself is the cleanliness of the environment and of your equipment.
However, you can choose to have it done by a professional. You can ask from friends for recommendations, or you can simply look them up in tattoo parlors. See to it that the cleanliness rating of the parlor you choose to have an ear pierce is of the highest level.
The first thing you will be asked to do when you get to the piercing salon for your appointment is to lie on your back on the piercing table. The technician will position himself or herself at a comfortable distance. He or she must wear gloves while performing the procedure on you. Your ears will then be swabbed clean with disinfectant or alcohol to prevent infections involving the cartilage.
Next comes the piercing of your tragus with a sterilized needle. Some do the piercing with a gun, but it’s not advisable as it can damage your cartilage. There are new guns now coming out in the market that do not fire in the same manner as the old piercing guns. In which case, they may be okay to use, but even then make sure to clarify this with the technician.
When the tragus has been pierced already, your choice of jewelry will be inserted through the hole made. Choose a piece of jewelry that’s larger than a stud as much as possible in order to enable the piercing to maintain its shape.
Now that the jewelry is in place, the piercing will be disinfected with alcohol and covered with bandage.
Although tragus piercing is a fairly common procedure, it does not mean that complications are unlikely to happen. However the risks involved can be reduced when you take the necessary precautions.
