A Complete Guide to Tongue Piercing

January 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Tongue Piercing

One of the most difficult forms of body piercing is tongue piercing; why, because you can get HIV or HPV, or worse bleed to death if it’s not done properly.

If you are therefore entertaining the thought of getting your tongue pierced, have it done by no less than a professional. There are lots of people who do body piercing as a career. You can easily search for them in tattoo salons and online, too. Apparently, you need to do more than just simply look them up; you have to verify their credentials and their experience. Don’t hesitate to ask them for legal documents, sanitary and health permits and so on. Get feedbacks and recommendations from people who have had undergone this kind of body piercing.

This type of body piercing should be conducted in a clean environment. The equipment to be used in the procedure must be autoclaved to ensure their cleanliness. Keep in mind that you will be introducing these equipment into your tongue so they have to be more than just clean, they have to be sterile.

Assuming you have already found the right professional to do the job and have also booked an appointment, before going to get your tongue done, remember to eat foods that can make you feel full longer, such as oatmeal and pasta. Since your tongue is involved, you will not be able to tolerate eating solid foods for the time being. In fact, it is recommended that you refrain from eating anything solid for two days following the procedure. Remember to bring along some ice chips, too, as these can help relieve the swelling and the pain that may be felt following the procedure. The swelling may be aggravated if you sip using a straw.

It may take about a couple of weeks or three for the swelling to be completely gone. When it has, that will be the time for you to see the piercer who did your tongue pierce and be refitted with your choice of jewelry for your tongue, possibly a barbell. There’s not going to be any more pain, so you’ll be able to eat well.

The cost of tongue piercing normally ranges between 30 and 50 dollars, but the price should not be as big a concern as the risks involved.
